Wargaming, publisher and developer of leading naval battle MMO World of Warships, is making a splash with an abundance of refreshing content for its July update. This drop sees a new fleet of Tier II–X Spanish cruisers arrive in Early Access, as well as some exciting updates for the game’s collaboration with iconic cartoon character Popeye the Sailor Man and charity FORCE BLUE for World Ocean Month. The update also introduces the fifth wave of Azur Lane content, a new collection dedicated to a major battle from WWI with a Premium destroyer as its final reward, and a new branch of European destroyers for all players.

Update 12.6: Early Access to Spanish cruisers, new aircraft carrier mechanics, Warship Strike video

Spanish cruisers in Early Access

Kicking off the update, World of Warships welcomes an entirely new branch of Spanish cruisers to the Tech Tree. Spanning Tier II to X, the range features nine ships with solid armor; main battery guns with a long reach and good damage per minute, plus the "Burst Fire” mode; and short-range torpedoes. The new ships can be unlocked in Early Access through various means, such as by obtaining random bundles and the different sets they hold. In addition to the ships, the random bundle sets also offer loads of themed Spanish content, including a commemorative flag and special permanent camouflages.

This range of cruisers also offers players a decent range of consumables to deploy in battle, with Hydroacoustic Search available for ships of Tier IV and above and Defensive AA Fire available for Tier VI and higher ships. Ships from Tier VII upward also have the Repair Teams, Fighter, and Spotter consumables at their disposal.

Popeye the Sailor Man closes out World Ocean Month

Following the launch of the collaboration with world-renowned IP character Popeye the Sailor Man for World Ocean Month, World of Warships is pleased to announce that the community has raised a grand total of $11.720 for ocean conservation and veteran rehabilitation charity FORCE BLUE. In addition to this, World of Warships has donated $50,000 to the veteran support and ocean conservation charity and were joined by key figures from the organization for a World Ocean Day livestream on June 8.

Following the conclusion of the collaboration, Jim Ritterhoff, co-founder and director of FORCE BLUE, said, “It was really phenomenal to work alongside World of Warships for World Ocean Month! The support we saw from the team was unbelievable, and the funds raised will help with the training and deployment of many more divers for our missions.”

World of Warships and FORCE BLUE plan to continue working in partnership to preserve the world’s oceans and help special operations veterans.

Azur Lane joins forces with World of Warships for the fifth time

The July update also sees the fifth wave of Azur Lane content roll in, washing three new Special Commanders onto the game’s shores. Colorado, Cheshire, and Prinz Heinrich— each with their own individual voiceover—join the ranks of the Azur Lane Commanders on the virtual seas. Ready to sail into combat, they can take the helms of two new ships—AL Cheshire and AL Prinz Heinrich. Wave Five also introduces three new permanent camouflages to deck out Roon; Saint Louis; and Neptune.

Artillery, Battle of the Somme, and more

Closing out Update 12.6’s content drop, a new branch of European destroyers has become fully researchable for all players. These ships rely on their main battery guns with high-explosive shells to do damage, and their high-speed torpedoes serve as secondary weapons. Making these ships a go-to for tactical combat, the highlight of this range is the combination of the Smoke Generator and Surveillance Radar consumables for ships of Tier VIII and higher.
Launching July 24, the game is set to welcome the new "Battle of the Somme" collection, themed after one of the largest battles from the First World War. Players can collect 60 different elements via both containers and missions to unlock British Tier IX Premium destroyer Somme, as well as a unique camouflage and Commander with 10 skill points.
This update also brings a number of bug fixes, upgrades, and balance changes across the game. You can find the full patch notes here World of Warships.
