OGame Announces Project Orion with Wave Defense Battles and Cooperative Fleet Missions

Public testing opens today for the major browser and mobile update, featuring 25+ mission types ahead of a two-stage launch in November

Gameforge today announced Project Orion, a major content update for OGame, its free-to-play space strategy MMO. The update introduces a wave-defense system in which commanders hold anomaly locations against successive fleets of computer-controlled enemies, earning loot for each defeated wave. Public testing begins today on browser and mobile, ahead of a November 6, 2026 launch in newly opened universes and a global rollout on November 30.

Project Orion is planned as the biggest part of a 24th anniversary celebration that brings 25+ mission types to OGame, from fleet battles to peaceful cargo assignments. Commanders can take on missions together in groups of up to five players or pursue double rewards at player-versus-player (PvP) objectives, where rival fleets can attack and contest the spoils.

“OGame’s players have spent almost 24 years building empires and alliances, and they still give us plenty of reasons to keep developing the game. With Project Orion, we want to give them more to do with those fleets, especially together. The public test is our chance to hear what they enjoy, where the balance needs work and what we can improve before the launch of this brand new update,” said Martin Liedtke, Director of Products at Gameforge.

Hold position against incoming fleets

Combat missions pit players against successive waves of randomly assembled NPC fleets, with enemies ranging from pirates to Deathstars. Fleet composition and size scale with the Interstellar Anomaly Scanner level, along with the potential loot. Changing enemy formations call for different fleet choices, and each defeated wave brings rewards that can include ships, resources, Dark Matter, Lifeform experience and premium items.

Commanders who favor economic growth can send cargo ships on peaceful missions, holding position to collect resources and other rewards. Project Orion gives players new objectives whether they prefer building their economy or testing their battle fleets.

Shared objectives bring allies and rivals together

The new Interstellar Anomaly Scanner lets players search for anomalies and choose which missions to activate. Once active, an anomaly becomes visible in the galaxy view, allowing other commanders to find and pursue the same opportunity.

Orion Groups let up to five commanders coordinate their fleets on a mission, with group size determined by the mission owner’s Alliance Depot level. PvP missions offer twice the rewards of PvE missions, but participants must also account for attacks from other players. Choosing where to commit a fleet means weighing the mission’s opposition against the rivals who might arrive next.

Put surplus resources to work

Project Orion introduces Lithium, a resource produced by converting Metal, Crystal, Deuterium or Food for Lifeforms. It gives surplus Food a new use and adds another decision to empire management: how much to keep for existing plans and how much to invest in anomaly missions. Lithium is shared across a player’s planets and cannot be traded or stolen.

A new Control Center provides nine upgradeable structures with bonuses for Orion activities. An updated mission overview helps commanders track fleets, incoming waves and rewards, while a dedicated tutorial chapter guides players through the new systems.

Join the Project Orion public test

The Public Test Server is open to everyone starting today. Players can register or sign in through the separate Pioneers test lobby; an account in that lobby is required. Testing is available through web browsers and the OGame mobile app. The test universe is English, with an in-game language selector available.

The PTS will remain available continuously, and test progress will not be reset after testing. Players can submit feedback and bug reports through the in-game feedback button, helping the team refine mission balance and the overall experience before release.

OGame marks its 24th anniversary

Separately, OGame will celebrate 24 years since its 2002 debut with an Anniversary Season, beginning October 2, 2026, across all universes and running until October 30, 2026. Players can earn exclusive titles, avatars and planet skins. These rewards will only be obtainable during the event.

Project Orion will arrive on browser and mobile together.

OGame is free to play in web browsers and through its app for iOS and Android.
