F2PMeter: Is Summoner's Legion Truly Free to Play?

It’s time for another episode of our F2Pmeter series, where we test the free-to-play-ness of all your favourite games. After Heroes and Generals’ F2PMeter, now it's turn for another title to face our test: Summoner's Legion, from R2Games, a browser-based TCG game where you can build your deck and face PvE campaign or PvP matches.

Remember that games start with a 100% of free-to-play-ness, and that % will vary depending on the answers to the questions.

Let’s begin.

EN - Question 1
No. You can play the game for free after a quick and painless registration process.

EN - Question 2
Yes (optional) – -15%. It’s playable for free, but it’s possible to get a VIP status with real money to receive certain advantages and boosts. There are different VIP packs (1 month, 3 months and 6 months) and when a subscription remains active, players get progress points and more rewards. In addition, VIP members get the chance to refresh mercenaries, buy more stamina and have more deck pages.

EN - Question 3
No. Up to this point, developers have released new content for free and there are no hints suggesting that this approach could change in the future.

EN - Question 4
Yes – -5%. As we already said, there is purchasable VIP status, but it is also possible to spend gold (premium currency) to recharge your stamina, buy booster packs and more.

EN - Question 5
No (but...) – -5%. The available premium options that a player can buy with real money could be probably considered more of a timesaver rather than an actual direct advantage as there are no specific powerful cards or items purchasable with premium currency and restricted to paying users.

EN - Question 6
No. The only UI customization option that seems available in the game is the “Hide chat bubbles” options and it's available to anyone.

EN - Question 7
Yes. There are not races in the game, but there are 4 classes (Mage, Priest, Warrior, Ranger) that represent the 4 available decks and they are accessible to everyone for free.

EN - Question 8
No. At this time there seems to be no way for players to trade cards or items between each other.

EN - Question 9
Yes – -10%. Players who buy VIP cards and upgrade their account status will receive additional deck pages for their collection, and the number of additional pages will increase with their VIP level.

EN - Question 10
Yes. Players will unlock the different available areas just by playing the game.

EN - Question 11
No. High-End dungeons and the different PvP modes are unlockable and available to anyone for free.

EN - Question 12
Yes – +10%. Surely VIP cards and rewards, more stamina and the possibility to buy a potentially unlimited amount of booster pack with real money will make your life easier, but the game doesn't seems to put you against an insuperable paywall that force you to open your wallet in order to enjoy the whole experience, and it seems to be absolutely playable without having to spend a dime.

Summoner’s Legion scores a 75% of free-to-play-ness in our test.
