World of Speed at Gamescom
We had an appointment with the Slightly Mad Studios and My.com staff at Gamescom 2014 to put our hands on World of Speed, a racing game with unique features in which it's not all about who is the first to cross the finish line. There are still some things that need to be done but the game is totally in a playable state.
So first thing when we got to their booth was a quick presentation about what the game is about, since it’s different than most of the racing games out there we really appreciated that. Still to make sure we fully understood it, they prepared a race for us.
We were split into 4 seats, two for the red team and the other two on the blue team, it was a race to test the team mode, which is the main feature of the game and its main difference with other racing games. So we went on a race to be introduced to the overall design and details of that game mode.
One of the developers sat right next to us and guided us through the first race, he pointed on the user interface how we could check our current progression on different things you can do during a race, such as following the best course line which was drawn on the track.
So we finished the first test race, and went straight into the actual race, the devs were keeping the scores of each team to put on a ranking list. So on the second race we went for the “follow the line” points, then moved to the sliding (drifting) goal and managed to win the race as well, so that was a little boost, still the other team was so close we almost lost.
The graphics are realistic and the gameplay is arcade, a great match. We played with an xbox controller and if felt really good, we’re looking forward to see the final version of the game and play it with friends.
During Gamescom they revealed team racing with a video, which you can watch right here. And if yo want to know more about the game, click on the "info" button below.
