Survarium at Gamescom

We went to the Vostok Games’ booth at Gamescom 2014 and talked to them about Survarium. We even got some hands-on time to try the game out, and we’ve got to say that the experience was good, they definitely captured the post-apocalyptic feel.

Vostok Games is a videogame developer company from Ukraine founded in 2012 with seasoned veterans of the industry among its ranks who worked on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 among others, they are focusing on Survarium as their only project and their goal is to make a free-to-play mmo shooter.

The developers told us the game is still in Closed Beta, and that they have big things coming up such as open world which is going to be a big part of the game, wandering around, gathering resources or items, fighting other players, good stuff.

Right now they have several maps already, the latest ones they released are an abandoned laboratory and the Cologne bridge (Germany), which was very special considering the Gamescom takes place in Cologne, so a lot of people were there just because they had heard about the Cologne map and wanted to check it out.

The game features an open free-to-play model where players can get cosmetic items with real money and the customization depth is actually pretty high. Players can pick decals and place them wherever they want on their character, there are also several slots for different type of gear, weapons, armors, gloves, helmet, they can even carry a backpack to increase the slots, but everything has a price, speed in this case, which is affected by your weight.

So the maps they currently have feature different mechanics, gathering batteries for a storm to come, at any time actually, it’s random each time; bringing new conditions and weather changes along with it. They also have one of the key features of the game, which are the anomalies, where players need to gear up to resist their effects when getting into them, but they grant special abilities or items.

Apart from the gear, which is a common feature among the MMO games, players also have skills in the shape of talent trees, where points can be spent to improve the character that way. The developers also mentioned there are factions you can work for, getting rewards in the process you can then use to buy stuff from those factions.

So the game is progressing at a nice pace and we’re looking forward to seeing it released with all its features.

We got the presentation on video, so feel free to watch it right now. And if you want to know more about this title, visit our profile by clicking on the "info" button below.

Great game! I’ve been in the closed beta for a couple months and it is definitely the best F2P shooters I’ve played. Does not feel P2W at all.
