Troubleshooting Connections

lost network connection

Problem: When trying to access your F2P Server through the iPhone, you get this message:

Safari can't open the page.
The error was: "lost network connection"
(NSURLErrorDomain:-1005)

Explanation: your F2P Access Server on your desktop has lost connection, and must be restarted.

Solution: to help prevent losing connection, add the -k30 option to your F2P startup command line and restart your F2P server. This option sends a "keep-alive" signal out to the Internet every 30 seconds, which prevents the server from being disconnected by your system or ISP due to a perceived time-out.

Right-click the Files2Phone desktop icon and select Properties. In the Shortcut Tab, click in the startup command line and use your arrow keys to scroll to the right end of the line. After the ending quotation marks, type a space, then -k30 and click Apply and OK.

Can't find user in database

Problem: When trying to access your F2P Server through the iPhone, you get this message:

Sorry, the MyF2P user does not exist in our database. Please make sure you have typed the name correctly or Register the name.

The most common reasons for this message are:

1.   You did not register that website-prefix. In your F2P Server, click Registration, and check the F2P Website Address shown.

2.   The DNS (domain name server) does not recognize your F2P website address yet. It can sometimes take several hours for a newly installed address to propagate around. As a temporary workaround, type an "x." or another character followed by a dot in front of your address and try again. For example, if your myF2P address is http://support.myf2p.com, try going to http://x.support.myf2p.com instead.

3.   Your firewall did not allow the F2P Server to make the connections it needed to reach our database. Please make sure that your firewall allows F2P to make all connections. If you are using Kasperksy Anti-Virus or Internet Security, you must configure it under Threats and Exclusions, see www.myf2p.com/FAQ/FAQ_Kaspersky.asp.

4.   You registered the F2P Server more than once with the same email address and website-prefix. To fix this, re-register the F2P Access Server with the original website-prefix. If you are unsure of what it is, please contact Files2Phones Support and include the eemail address you used when registering. To re-register, click Windows Start, then All Programs, then 1stWorks Corporation, then Files2Phones, then Register Files2Phones. In the Registration Wizard window, select the second option (I am re-registering an existing account), and click Next.

Test Access through a web browser

You can configure the Files2Phones Access Server so that you can access it through a web browser instead of a phone. This is for testing purposes only, as the files do not display correctly.

To do this, add the /p option at the end of the program startup command line, then start Files2Phones.

Right-click the Files2Phone desktop icon and select Properties. In the Shortcut Tab, click in the startup command line and use your arrow keys to scroll to the right end of the line. After the ending quotation marks, type a space, then /p and click Apply and OK.

If Cookies are disabled

myF2P is very dependent on Cookies for security and speed of operation. By default, Cookies are enabled on your iPhone. If you have disabled them, simply hit the Menu button, tap the Settings Button and select Safari and minimally set accept cookies From Visited. You will need to re-boot the iPhone to change this within Safari. Hold the Menu and Power buttons down for 20 seconds until the Apple logo appears. After the iPhone stabilizes, go to your F2P site to resume normal operation.
