F2PMeter: Is Drakensang Truly Free to Play?
This free to play action RPG is a browser based epic where players can build up different heroes and adventure through a grim-dark fantasy world of rising evils that threaten the land. A feature packed titled, Drakensang offers a lot of traditional RPG elements to its users, end game PVP and hours of story driven content; it provides all this for free, but just HOW free is it really? Let’s find out!
Does the game require an initial purchase?

'No'

Drakensang can be played through a small mini client or player through your preferred web browser without any need for a client download.
Does the game require any continued paid subscription?

'No (but...)' takes away 10%

Whilst the main game doesn’t require a subscription there is a premium account sub available to players, this provides a wealth of perks, boosts, a premium only NPC trader, some premium account only benefits and items such as loot items known as Mystic Cubes that can grant players exclusive legendary items. The core content and primary features are still available to F2P players.
Does the game require spending money on DLC packs or expansions?

'No'

There is no DLC for Drakensang and all expansion are updated for free providing players with new features, areas, quests and more.
Does the game support micro-transactions? Can anything be purchased in-game using real world money?

'Yes' takes away 5%

The main currency in the game is Andermant, and it is used to buy practically everything a player will need. This can be earned by free to play accounts and premium accounts alike, however, players can also purchase this currency using real world cash and save money the more cash/bigger the bundle they purchase.
Do any of the micro-transactions give players an advantages?

'Yes' takes away 15%

Whilst purchasing currency for convenience is fairly standard in free to play MMOs, the required grind towards the upper levels of Drakensang does become an extremely long and tedious grind and realistically it is near impossible for even active F2P accounts to acquire the same amount of Andermant to buy top gear that premium/paying players can.
Is the user interface customization restricted to paid options?

'No'

There aren’t any UI customization capabilities.
Does the game give access to all available classes and/or races?

'Yes'

The game allows players on all account types to create characters from the four core classes/race combinations.
Does the game require have limitations to how the 'Auction House' / Market is accessed?

'No' takes away XX%

Auction/market trading is a feature accessible on free to play accounts.
Are personal inventory and/or bank slots limited at all?

'Yes' takes away 10%

Players on a paid premium account will have an extra 28 inventory slots for each character as well as being able to access their bank/locker at any time as opposed to using specific locker NPCs.
Are all dungeons and zones accessible without purchases?

'Yes'

There aren’t any restricted areas for F2P users.
Does the game restrict high endgame content (PVE, Raids or PvP)?

'No'

Access to high end content is all available to F2P players, thought players not spending any money might struggle to be competitive.
Can the game be fully enjoyed without ever having to spend a ‘penny’?

'Yes' adds 10%

As said above, the end game content does start to require cash payment to stay competitive, particularly in PVP, with the rate at which F2P accounts can acquire Andermant being extremely slow and the high costs on lots of top tier items being astronomical in comparison, making a two pronged price gouge for F2P users. For those who just want to enjoy a fun RPG, enjoy some action combat and aren’t too worried about being a competitive PVPer then the game offers everything you would need for free.
